Dr. Lynn Allen, Assistant Superintendent
Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES
"Mike Sellet has extensive experience and expertise in emergency response and crisis management. He has been instrumental in assisting numerous school districts throughout the Lower Hudson Valley region to prepare and respond effectively to serious crisis situations. Additionally, he has provided comprehensive, engaging presentations on timely topics that have further informed school district safety."
Valerie Henning-Piedmonte, Ed.D., Superintendent
Brewster Central School District
"Mr. Sellet played a key role in training our district to effectively and consistently utilize the Incident Command System. Throughout the year, Mr. Sellet met with the district wide team to upgrade our safety plans and conduct tabletop exercises that involved a cross section of staff.
The table top scenarios were always thoughtful, relevant and multifaceted. This was important because Mr. Sellet then returned to work with the district level team and building based teams to refine our practices. Mr. Sellet was also on-site during a disruptive emergency in the district. He shadowed the Incident Commander as a way of providing assistance as well as feedback. This was one of the most valuable experiences, in real time, that I have ever witnessed.
Regardless of who Mr. Sellet works with, he inspires confidence and a realization that the Incident Command System is an essential part of readiness in any school district."
Dr. Raymond Blanch, Superintendent
Somers Central School District
"At Somers the physical and emotional safety of our employees and children is paramount. We have worked with Mike to prepare our schools for all types of emergencies. With his expertise he has guided us through the necessary steps for emergency preparedness including planning, documentation, and training for all of our schools. In particular, he has facilitated desktop exercises that led us to the implementation of practice lockout and lockdown drills before they were enacted in law.
Mike has also proven to be an outstanding resource for our District when we need to support our children, employees, and families during times of emotional crisis. I experienced this firsthand when one of our elementary children died in a car accident. Mike was there supporting our crisis team on a Sunday morning. With Mike’s help and guidance, we were prepared and confident we could support the emotional needs of our community when school opened on Monday. And, we did."
Laura Mitchell, Superintendent
Garrison Union Free District
"I have worked side by side with Mike Sellet a number of times and each time I have found him to be informed, genuinely collaborative, open to new ideas, filled with ideas and always available to assist where and when needed.
He is responsive, accessible and brings a wealth of knowledge about safety to the educational table. He has helped us with monitoring water and air quality, trained our teacher aides on playground safety and was instrumental in helping us plan and implement a successful Drug Awareness panel for the community.
Mike's many trainings, table top activities and presentations ensured that were/ are prepared, informed and ready for emergencies that may come our way. His positive energy is contagious and his passion for keeping us safe is endless."
John Coxen, Supervisor of Transportation
Brewster Central School District Transportation Center
"I want to thank you for your time and energy bringing an important message to your staff, especially as it concerns the safety of all our students, and especially those who are challenged beyond their own strengths.
The fact that we play a role for those students is both a treasure and a heavy burden of responsibility, which your de-escalation and threat assessment training, with role play, helped to be more manageable.
I look forward to your next time with us as we always are on the side of those benefits you offer."
John McCarthy, Assistant Superintendent

Dr. Anthony Pantaleno, Coordinator, LISPAN, NYS Licensed Psychologist, NYS School Psychologist (ret.)
Long Island School Practitioner Action Network
"Over the past four years, I have been privileged to work closely with Mike Sellet in the creation and promotion of a regional crisis group known as the Long Island School Practitioner Action Network, or LISPAN. Since this was a new startup effort, we needed the wisdom and practical application of a best practices model without having to take the time to learn it ourselves as we grew.
Mike's expertise in school crisis prevention, intervention, and post-vention has come from years of being in the trenches not only in schools, but in a variety of other professional security roles which included service in the U. S. military. His unique position as co-chair of the Putnam Northern Westchester Regional Crisis Team has given him an insider's view of the challenging issues facing school administrators and school-based mental health providers, and he delivers a powerful presentation which leaves audiences thinking of how they may improve their own crisis plans.
On another note, Mike brings a sense of humor, humanity, and humility to this work, which we all need in dealing with tragic loss and the personal emotions that can unravel the best of us. With Mike as our ally, LISPAN has always felt supported with the highest quality of genuine caring. May all schools have the opportunity to know this gentle man with a warehouse of knowledge on a tough topic."
Mike Piazza, Jr, MA, Commissioner
Putnam County Department of Social Services and Mental Health
"Mike Sellet has been an integral contributor to the Putnam/Northern Westchester school community. As a leader in the field of school safety crisis response, he responded immediately to provide support to school districts when crises occurred.
However, his support did not end with the schools. Mike’s crisis response to the schools was integrated as he crossed over to provide crisis response in the larger community as well.
Mike has been an active participant in our Disaster Preparedness Task Force He has been a resource to our community groups in providing appropriate supportive response to a tragedy.
But his expertise in school safety has extended into other areas as well. Even in response to the opiate epidemic he was looked at to moderate community forums of major stakeholders in the war against opiate addiction for school districts.
He is able to bring together law enforcement, substance abuse treatment and prevention providers and school personnel to deliver a clear, comprehensive and objective message about the dangers of drug abuse and how to prevent and treat it."
Stephanie Carnes, LMSW, School Social Worker
Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES
"I had the privilege of working with and learning from Mike Sellet at Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES, where we both served on the Regional Crisis Team, a group of school professionals trained to respond to school crises. Mike is my go-to authority on school safety issues and he continually has his finger on the pulse of current trends and emerging security threats.
He draws on his rich and diverse background in counterterrorism, national security, and education to offer a nuanced perspective on school safety. He is spectacularly thorough and knowledgeable, and his ability to bring levity and clarity to the challenges of school security make him an incredible resource and an effective trainer."
Anthony D. Merlini, P.E., Director of Facilities
Hendrick Hudson School District
"The Hendrick Hudson School District has been working with Mike Sellet since 2008 on various health and safety issues. During the course of our relationship, Mike has provided the District with help on topics such as including Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), building level training, bomb threat response, threat assessments; de-escalation, active shooter, greeter and playground monitor training, lockdown, lockout, hold in place, and shelter in place and evacuation/relocation drills. He also provided the District with district/building level emergency response team training and customized table top drills.
Mike's familiarity of health and safety becomes evident immediately, not only of regulations, but he also has the practical knowledge that comes from tactical boots on the ground experience. The District and staff very impressed with Mike as our consultant. The information provided during training was well organized and thorough. Mike's experience in the health and safety field brings a vast perspective to the material being taught.
The District developed a great partnership with Mike. His dedication and devotion to safety at our District was always a top Priority. Mike was continually willing to go the extra time to make sure the staff fully understood their roles and responsibilities. We appreciate all he has done for us to create a safe and healthy teaching and learning environment for the staff and students here at Hendrick Hudson Schools.
